A Weekend of Words
You may enjoy reading a tangible copy of the latest New York Times best seller, or maybe you prefer scrolling through the pages of a novel on your Kindle with one touch of your fingertip. However you choose to read, we all know that literacy is important for children and adults. Support literacy programs in the community by attending the 25th-annual Literary Feast, Friday through Monday at the Hyatt Regency at 2301 SE 17th St. Cswy. in Fort Lauderdale. The weekend, supported by the Broward County Library Foundation, begins Friday at 11:30 a.m. with LitLUNCH and featured author Lee Woodruff at the Pier Top restaurant. Tickets cost $65. On Saturday, meet this year's group of feast authors at a cocktail party in the Panorama Ballroom. Enjoy an open bar, appetizers, and a silent auction from 6 to 8 p.m. Dinner ticket holders will have the opportunity to have dinner with one or two featured authors hosted in private homes and upscale restaurants. Cocktail reception tickets cost $75, and dinner tickets cost $175. On Sunday from 12:30 to 5 p.m., join the authors at a series of lectures, discussions, and book signings at the Alvin Sherman Library, Research, and Information Technology Center on the Davie campus of Nova Southeastern University. And from 7 to 9 p.m., head back to the hotel to celebrate St. Patrick's Day at a poolside reception with Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist and author Dave Barry. Monday, the guest authors will conduct workshops in high schools across the county and announce the winners of the Novel Day for Student Short Story contest. Tickets cost $40.
