Art Basel is probably one of, if not the, biggest art festivals in the world, and it's right here in our own backyard. Well, not right here. It's in the Wynwood Arts District of Miami, which is an hour drive from most parts of Broward County and south Palm Beach County. It's well worth the trip, of course, but luckily for us, bits and pieces of the magic of Basel have drifted north. This week's Art After Dark event at the Norton Museum will pay tribute both to the art of Basel and its international savoir faire.
The nightlife event that takes over the museum will feature the art of Basel's past, including a screening of the 2011 Art Basel documentary Rising Tide: A Story of Miami Artists by director Andrew Hevia. Miami band Rock 'n' Roll Circus will play Brit-rock classics by the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Kinks, and others. Enjoy the music and the art from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Admission is $12 for adults, $5 for students, and free for members. The Norton Museum of Art is located at 1451 S. Olive Ave. in West Palm Beach.
