Art Free Fall

If you've ever considered attending an art walk in downtown Fort Lauderdale and haven't gotten around to it, this Saturday's Art Fallout 2013 is not to be missed. Art Fallout is the largest and grandest art happening the city has to offer. Nearly every contemporary art venue, from Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale to Girls' Club to FATVillage artist studios and galleries and Sailboat Bend Artist Lofts, opens up for the night -- the route spans a four-mile stretch -- to present an outpouring of exhibitions, interactive installations, live theater, live mural painting, presentations, and so on. Thus, the entire Fort Lauderdale art scene collides for just one night. So attendees can hit up every venue -- perhaps a four-mile walk in heels isn't conducive for some -- the organizers have arranged for free shuttle buses for you to hop on and off throughout the night. Those in flats or heels can arrive on bicycles or rent one from Broward B-Cycle. To give a hint of what to expect, the event's main organizers, Girls' Club, a nonprofit and alternative exhibition space, will present an open-call exhibition called "Thinking on Paper" and ask the public, along with a panel of judges, to critique the works on display. Young at Art Museum's alternative project group, Bedlam Lorenz Assembly, will take to the streets and erect an interactive 100-foot-long mural and a sculpted playground and build out a site spanning 13,000 square feet at North Andrews Avenue and Fifth Street. A bevy of food trucks will be onsite. All the creative madness will begin at 5 p.m. and go on till 9 at various locations. An afterparty will be held at the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale, 1 E. Las Olas Blvd. Girls' Club is located at 117 NE Second St. Visit Admission is free.
Sat., Oct. 5, 5-9 p.m., 2013
