Bad Moon Rising
There was a time that it was considered sexier to leave some things to the imagination than to splay yourself open for all to see. It was around the same time that Vaudeville was hot and a nickel would get you into a theater filled with fire-eaters, dancers, magicians, and singers, all performing their art on the same stage in front of hundreds of hollering business folk. With the advent and rising popularity of stag films, strip clubs, and the internet, the 1920s-style burlesque shows have all but disappeared, until today. Saturday night, you can hearken back to the good old days where flashing a little leg was all you needed to make someone blush; where musicians and magicians and dancers took turns entertaining you without making you feel completely sleazy by the nights end. The Full Moon Follies Burlesque Troup - featuring performances by Lady Phoenix and Francean Fanny, music by Jennifer Wolfson, and magic by Marti Brill - is turning back the clock tonight at Cinema Paradiso with shows at 7 and 10. Tickets cost just $15; for $30 you can get "dinner and a show," dinner taking place beforehand at the Downtowner. Get a peek at the goods at 503 SE Sixth St. in Fort Lauderdale.
