Baked But Not Necessarily Stoned
With his role in 1998 stoner cult classic Half Baked and a permanently droopy, glazed look in his eye, New York-born standup comic Jim Breuer has earned a reputation as a true pothead's comedian. Breuer hasn't done much to steer away from that reputation either, considering his '02 comedy album Smoke 'n' Breu and the book he published in '10 titled I'm Not High (But I've Got a Lot of Crazy Stories About Life as a Goat Boy, a Dad, and a Spiritual Warrior). But in many interviews, Breuer has admitted that he's really not stoned all the time; he's just had that heavy-lidded look since age 6. And Breuer's comedy is far more developed than just pothead drivel; he does spot-on Joe Pesci, Robert DeNiro, and Jack Nicholson impressions and is an impressive improvisational and scripted actor. Breuer first came to the public's eye as a cast member on Saturday Night Live, where characters like Goat Boy made him a household name.
Watch Breuer and his baked comedy Wednesday at 8 p.m. at the Fort Lauderdale Improv, located at 5700 Seminole Way in Hollywood. This is an 18-and-over show. Tickets cost $25, with a two-drink minimum. Call 954-981-5653, or visit ftl.improv.com.
