Better Living Through...Better Living

Stop us if we're off here, but if you're anything like us your holidays probably went something like this: stressful dash to finish work before days off, open presents, drink to excess, stuff belly, sleep it off, drink to excess, remember about work you forgot while recovering from drinking, make silly resolution not to drink or eat to excess, drink and eat to excess all at once, sleep it off, stumble back to work an absolute mess and wonder why you spent your holiday imitating John Candy. It would be easy to feel guilty for such a lifestyle, falling backwards into a way-less-fun cycle of deprivation and self-loathing. Instead, we suggest you make only those adjustments to your habits that could be deemed enjoyable on their own. Adjustments like spending Mondays at Whole Foods Fort Lauderdale's Lifestyle Center.

The Center is a wealth of knowledge on everything from cooking your own organic baby food to making your shopping budget stretch farther to just learning how to relax with a little bit of QiGong. On Mondays, it hosts two classes that temper your love for food and lounging into constructive activities: First is the Lunch Club, a cooking demonstration that culminates in a tasty, healthful vegetarian meal alongside your contemporaries. The hour-long lunch break starts at noon, uses organic and local products, and costs just $10. Come back to the center at 5:30 p.m. for your next session, a Kundalini Yoga class by certified instructor Jessica Dickerson. The $10 class is just the cure your aching chakra needs, covering with postures, music, and meditation.

The Lifestyle Center is located next door to Whole Foods at 2000 N. Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale. Get more info at
Mondays, 12 & 6:30 p.m. Starts: Jan. 12. Continues through May 31, 2009
