During this time of year, the smells of wurst, beer, and sweaty dancing fräuleins make their way across the pond and activate South Floridians into a full party mode called Oktoberfest. From now until the end of October, Broward is engulfed in Oktoberfest hysteria. Don't be surprised when you start speaking German after a few mugs of brau. Here are the events happening this week: • Second annual Las Olas Oktoberfest Thursday through Sunday, at the Las Olas Wiesen Lawn, next to Riverside Hotel, 620 Las Olas Blvd., Fort Lauderdale. Times run from 5 to 10 p.m. Thursday, 5 to 11 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday. Food and drink prices range from $3 to $17. For an expanded variety of beer during that weekend, don't forget to check out American Social on Friday at 721 E. Las Olas Blvd. • German American Society of Hollywood, 6401 Washington St. in Hollywood, this Sunday and October 5 and 12 from noon to midnight. Call 954-322-6227. • Lauderdalefest Oktoberfest at Huizenga Park, 32 E. Las Olas Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, on Saturday from noon to 11 p.m. Cost is $20 to $40. • Old Heidelberg Restaurant at 900 W.
