Biggest Loser Paradox
If you can even remember when the phrase “the biggest loser” was an insult slung on the playground, you’re either a liar or really old. Kids are way better at insults these days. In America, Land of Obesity, being the Biggest Loser isn’t just a good thing; it’ll get you on TV. So get your New Year’s resolution started already and join the Biggest Loser RunWalk Fort Lauderdale 5K. If being famous for getting unfat is not actually a dream of yours, it’s OK. This is actually a friendly, low-pressure event meant to encourage you to get out and be active at a speed that is comfortable for you. For fans of the show, Dan and Jackie Evans, mother-and-son faves from season five, will be participating. Walkers and runners will be timed with a chip, and awards will be given to top finishers in the different age groups. The race takes place 7:30 a.m. Saturday through downtown, beginning and ending at Huizenga Park, 32 E. Las Olas Blvd., Fort Lauderdale. The cost is $40 until Friday and then $50 after that — if spots are still available. To register and for information about picking up your race packet, visit BiggestLoser.com/RunWalk.
