Boats Gone Wild
Santa may have a sleigh and eight mangy reindeer, but the 2009 Winterfest Boat Parade has Kim Kardashian and Alonzo Mourning. This pair of hoops-loving celebs are the grand marshals for this 38th-annual orgy of seagoing Christmas spirit call it Boats Gone Wild which kicks off tonight at 6 p.m. More than a million people are expected to watch 100 wildly decorated boats make the 12-mile cruise along the New River and out to the Intracoastal Waterway. Among the entrants: the Seminole Hard Rocks comic book boat, a Cirque du Soleil boat, and an Animation Domination craft featuring the Simpsons and Family Guy.
Tickets to the grandstand seating area in Birch State Park (3109 E. Sunrise Bvld., Fort Lauderdale), where you can get food and booze and a seat all your own, cost $21 for adults, $16 for kids ten and under, and are available at winterfestparade.com.
And if you want something a little tonier, starting at 5 p.m. Lauderdales ritzy Il Lugano (3333 NE 32nd Ave., Fort Lauderdale) is holding its own viewing party right on the water, with munchies from Todd Englishs da Campo Osteria, drink specials, and a steel drum band. Tickets are $50 in advance and $60 the day of the event; call Il Lugano at 954-564-4400 and ask for dock party tickets. (You can pick up your wristband as early as Thursday or the day of the party.)
And if thats not swell enough for you, da Campo is also doing a $95 per person, four-course dinner with one seating only at 6:30 p.m. that will get you dishes like ricotta and prosciutto fritters with spicy aioli, butternut squash agnolotti, short rib osso buco, and pumpkin and chocolate zeppole, as well as a free shot at the dock party.
