Bubble tea sure is some strange business but damn good business at that. The Taiwanese treat is one part iced tea, one part milky smoothie, and one part chunky cocktail, replete with gooey little pearls of congealed tapioca that get sucked up in an ultra-thick straw. Wait
gooey pearls of tapioca? Yup, the little buggers offer a textural variation thats much more appealing than it sounds that, and an inventive complement to the sweet, fruit-flavored black tea they inhabit. The drinks also called boba are huge on the West Coast and in New York, but now you can get them in Hollywood courtesy of the newly opened Megabyte Cybercafe (1750 S. Young Circle, Hollywood). The neat, little Internet café, tea lounge, and live music den on the south corner of Arts Park offers five varieties of refreshing bubble teas, including mango, watermelon, and honeydew, but owner Adam Morgan hopes to expand that total to 25 in the near future. If you stop by Megabyte for a boba, you can also rent computer use by the hour or play board games in the lounge. Call 954-237-2960 for more information.
