Bunny Behind the Lens
How do you attract the peepers to your spanking-new, 250,000-square-foot art and automobile museum during a whirlwind December when the eyes of the international art scene have been left glazed over by Art Basel? If you are mogul collector and developer Michael Dezer, the answer is simple: You fill the exhibition halls with the work of Bunny Yeager, the legendary pinup photographer who has been streaking hotter than a comet across the contemporary art scene the past year.
Yeager, a former Playboy model, finally received some long-overdue love from highbrow culturati when Pittsburgh's Andy Warhol Museum presented the first museum survey, "Bunny Yeager: The Legendary Queen of the Pin-Up," which featured both her work as a model and photographer. Then this past May, Wynwood's Harold Golen Gallery featured a never-before-exhibited suite of self-portraits Yeager shot during the '50s and '60s that became the talk of the town afterward ("The Fabulous Bunny Yeager"). Now Yeager is back for the blockbuster exhibit organized by international art critic and Berlin-based curator Helmut Schuster, who has culled some of the iconic shutterbug's most searing images for "Bunny Yeager: Retrospective to the Future."
On view, you'll find 220 of Yeager's photos. The collection, all snapped during the middle of the last century, boasts everything from her famous pictures of Bettie Page to more than 100 other images that have never seen the light of day. The exhibit runs through February 29 at Dezer Schauhalle (2000 NE 146th St., Miami). Call 305-932-4556, or visit dezerschauhalle.com.
Tuesdays-Saturdays. Starts: Dec. 14. Continues through Feb. 29, 2011
