Tonight's event is called Some Like It Hot, but it has nothing to do with gangsters, cross-dressing musicians, or Marilyn Monroe. Instead, this collaboration between two renowned dance companies is so named because it's expected to be one of the summer's most sizzling events. For the past two weeks, dancers from eighth grade all the way to adult dance professionals participated in a two-week dance intensive in Palm Beach Gardens, where they studied up to eight styles -- think "Vegas Week" on So You Think You Can Dance. Some Like it Hot will feature the fruits of students' labor: seven dance pieces presented in boundary-pushing jazz and contemporary ballet styles and choreographed, in part, by the directors of the producing companies, Reach Dance Collective's Maria Konrad and O Dance's Jerry Opdenaker. The works include Konrad's "I'm Gonna Crawl," which she describes as "a sexy, smoky jazz piece" set to the titular Led Zeppelin tune. The fun begins at 8 p.m. Saturday at Eissey Campus Theatre, located at 11051 Campus Drive in Palm Beach Gardens. Tickets cost $21 and can be purchased online. Call 561-339-6360, or visit reachdancecompany.com.
