You consider yourself a dyed-in-rawhide, real deep-down country boy with a penchant for ten-gallon Stetsons, a fresh tin of Skoal, and cowgirls in tight Wranglers? Are some of your favorite flicks Rhinestone, Urban Cowboy, and How the West Was Won? Then saddle up, pardner, and get your ass over to Davie this weekend for some top-notch cowboy action. The 63rd-annual "Sunshine State Championship Rodeo" takes place at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Bergeron Rodeo Grounds (4271 Davie Rd., Davie).
This rodeo, the final event of the 2003 season at the Bergeron facility, involves the top 40 bull riders from across the land competing for the ultimate end-of-year title. Along with the throng of bull riders, activities Saturday night will include clowns, trick ropers, and Frisbee dogs, along with a mechanical bull for those with a mean streak and pony rides for the kids.
So show up Saturday night, make sure to wear your spurs, crack open a brew or two, and enjoy some good country-western tunes while you check out the best bull-riding talent Florida has to offer. Admission is $14 for adults, $8 for kids age 12 and younger. Call 954-389-5311. -- Russ Evans
