The Chicago Cubs are ineffectual, overpriced, and ultimately irrelevant according to one of the latest and frankly more merciful assessments on ESPN.com. Thats almost the opposite of the effectual, underpriced, and, well, marginally relevant Marlins. Thats not to say the Cubs are appreciably worse than the Marlins the Cubs won 47 of their first 90 games; the Marlins, 46 its just that they arent built to win anything beyond September. Their hitting stinks, they cant keep anyone healthy, and theyre paying $135 million in payroll to the Marlins $37 million. Chicago may outlast the Cardinals to win the ho-hum National League Central, but its clear the Marlins are, at best, a Wild Card team. Course, for that to happen, theyve got to hold court against the bumbling likes of these crumb-bum Cubbies. Their three-game series begins Friday at 7:10 p.m. at Land Shark (nee Dolphin) Stadium (2269 NW 199th St., Miami Gardens). Tickets start at $12. Buy them at the gate, or reserve them through florida.marlins.mlb.com, or by calling 954-523-3309.
Fri., July 31, 7 p.m.; Sat., Aug. 1, 7 p.m.; Sun., Aug. 2, 7 p.m., 2009
