Draw the Line
Just because you're a starving artist doesn't mean you have to hang in your garret all the time. Come on over to Fort Lauderdale's Las Olas Boulevard on Saturday and make art a communal experience at the Quick Draw Las Olas art event. You'll have two hours to create a masterpiece from scratch in one of three categories: Plein Air, for folks who like to paint what they're looking at (in this case the architecture and street life of the city's lively Spanish-style shopping and dining corridor); Plain Fun, for those who just want to do their own thing (hmm); and Young Artist under 18.
Plein Air will be judged by Tom Rossetti, owner of the New River Fine Art Gallery; Scott Reikerd, manager of Seldom Seen, will handle the Plain Funsters; and Pam Huizenga Alexander of Joe Picasso's, will ump the kids.
Top prizewinners will receive cash; the young 'uns will get baskets of art goodies. Everyone stands to rake in the big bucks at this Broward Art Guild fundraiser when entries are auctioned to the highest bidders at Stork's Cafe (1109 E. Las Olas Blvd., Fort Lauderdale), headquarters for the event. Registration starts at 12:30 p.m., the paint-off is from 2 to 4 p.m., entries must be framed and ready for jurying by 4:30 p.m., and the awards ceremony, reception, and auction start at 6 p.m. Call 954-396-3213, or visit www.browardartguild.org.
