Fair Is Fair
For all of the somewhat seedy images the quintessential county fair experience brings up (i.e., ride operators with pasts shadier than a centuries-old Banyan and eats sooo fried, theyd make even Paula Deens cardiologist blush), the Broward County Fair manages to surpass these unfavorable perceptions by sticking close to traditions of agriculture, farming, education, and entertainment. Today, BCF (City Center site, 10300 Pines Blvd., Pembroke Pines) pulls out all the stops with midway rides; a classic car show; local beekeepers preparing fresh honey; a Sugar Cane Growers demonstration; music by Classic Rock Therapy, Lu White and the Hot Rods, and the Hep Cat Boo Daddies; and a visit from Santa Claus. Doors open at noon. General admission (which excludes rides) is $10 for ages 12 and older, $5 for ages 3 to 11, and free for age 2 and younger. Call 954-922-2224, or visit browardfair.org.
