Feed Your Ego
So you are probably really good at taking pictures, right? What's the best picture you have taken recently? Chances are it was with your iPhone. You probably Instagrammed to make sure the masses were able to get a glance at your masterpiece. There's a 50/50 chance it was a glorious South Florida sunset eternally immortalized as pixilated bullshit on your profile. Now, what about that picture you took of Mick Jagger? Oh, wait a second -- that's not you. That's Los Angeles-born photographer extraordinaire Nancy Ellison, and her exhibit "Altered Egos" is taking over the walls of the Design Center of America. Ellison has captured some of the most desirable and angsty celebrities in recent years in a frame of vulnerability. These are no paparazzi pics but some of the great actors and artists of our time immortalized in the medium of photography. Those who have had the honor of being photographed by Ellison include Bill Clinton, Jack Nicholson, Sharon Stone, and Sean Penn, just to name a few. Ellison is bringing 114 of her finest career-spanning photographs to display in Dania Beach. It's the perfect excuse to put down your smartphone and pick up an education on what a photograph is supposed to look like. "Nancy Ellison: Altered Egos" exhibition is available for viewing until April 11 at the Design Center of the Americas, located at 855 Griffin Road in Dania Beach.
