Just because you're not a real spy doesn't mean you can't play one at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts, and you'll want to the second you set foot into the Carnival Studio Theater for their new series Cabaret and Cocktails.
The concept is simple. Change out the rowed seating for cocktail tables; serve drinks and food; book some of the best singers in the country, and voila! You've got a perfect jazz cabaret for dates with that certain someone, or for exchanging secret documents with Mr. X.
First on the bill in October is Tony-nominated Broadway star Sherie Rene Scott, veteran of productions like Rent, the Little Mermaid, and Aida. Then in January the series welcomes Karen Akers, a true cabaret star whose list of venues includes the White House, and finally, in April, it's the incomparable Christine Andreas. You may remember Andreas from the 20th Anniversary Broadway production of My Fair Lady, in which she starred as Eliza Doolittle oppposite Ian Richardson, or from one of her many, many other Broadway starring roles.
Tickets start at just $15, so it's time to pick out a hat and trenchcoat.
Oct. 15-17, 7:30 p.m.; Jan. 21-24, 7:30 p.m.; April 22-25, 7:30 p.m., 2009
