A renowned name in comedy and philanthropy, Craig Shoemaker was dubbed Comedian of the Year by the American Comedy Awards on ABC, has a half-hour Comedy Central special that was voted as one of the network's "Top 20" standup specials of all time, and founded the nonprofit organization, laughterheals.org. If that alone doesn't suffice, Shoemaker also wrote, produced, and starred in Totally Baked, which was nominated for the 2008 High Times "Stony Award." Maybe you've heard of his two standup comedy routines, "Playing Amy" and "Lovemaster," on XM Radio that have made it to the Top 10 list? While the accolades can go on and on, you'll have to catch his next show to see what all the fuss is about. But a phenomenal show doesn't come without prizes, as the 2013 Mardi Gras Casino Comedy Challenge winner will perform and be presented with a $5,000 check before Shoemaker takes over. Shoemaker's next show is on Saturday in the grandstand at Mardi Gras Casino, located at 831 N. Federal Highway in Hallandale Beach. General-admission tickets cost $20 in advance and $25 at the door. VIP tickets cost $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. The Comedy Challenge Winner goes on at 8 p.m. and is presented with a check at 8:30 p.m. Shoemaker goes on at 8:35.
