Get Crazy With Your Fruit
That mango tree in the backyard seemed like a rad idea a few years ago, but now that you’re knee-deep in the suckers, the bounty is bearing down on you like some sort of tropical weight on your shoulders. You may be able to get some ideas of how to wrangle your harvest Saturday at Mango Mania at Flamingo Gardens.
Tied in with the impending mango season in Florida, the Gardens’ Tropical Marketplace will feature some culinary creations using mangoes as the starring ingredient. Experts, meanwhile, will give free presentations about how to care for the tropical fruit frees and what to expect from them in the course of their growing cycle. In case you’re looking to cultivate your own supply — for making pies, lassi, cocktails, or whatever — the garden shop will sell mango trees and fruit throughout the day. The festivities run 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. There’s no cost to attend any of the events that are hosted in the garden shop or courtyard, but there is an admission charge ($18 for those 12 and over, $10 for kids 4 to 11, and $15 for seniors, students, and armed services) to enter the gardens.
Flamingo Gardens is located at 3750 S. Flamingo Road in Davie. Call 954-473-2955, or visit flamingogardens.org.
