Go Granny, Go Granny, Go Granny, Go!
Youve probably seen Mimi Weddell before. Shes a spry, Energizer Bunny-like nonagenarian who graces countless print ads as well as cameoing handfuls of TV and film roles. Vaguely recall Stanfords grandma on Sex and the City? Thats her a 93-year-old New York actress whos always sporting a 10-gallon hat and twiddling a cigarette holder. Mimi dashes from audition to audition no damned tolerance for slow people her plucky optimism often beating out other peer competitors. Mimis either eccentric or super-active, or both. And thats why documentarian Jyll Johnstone profiles her in Hats Off.
For ten whole years (yes, ten) Johnstones camera follows the aged pavement-pounder as she lands bit parts in showbiz, attends dance classes, gets her hair done, then zips off to another audition. Hats Off screens today at 2 and 6 p.m. at Lake Worth Playhouse (713 Lake Ave., Lake Worth). Tickets cost $5 to $8. Call 561-586-6410, or visit lakeworthplayhouse.org.
