Lips sashays around your Broadway faves as part of Art Explosion. Drag and Broadway have oh so much in common, don't they? There's the all that make up, the fabulous flowing gowns, and the way participants and spectators alike have a knack for getting hyper-dramatic and clapping a lot. There's something nostalgic and innocent and dirty and fun going on all at the same time in both these art forms, and you really can't help but get caught up in the magic. Which is why the marriage of Broadway and drag dining during Lips' A Night of Broadway makes so much sense: toss up some island backdrops, add a couple of leis, and boom — you've got South Pacific (And let's be honest: half the Lips crew already knew the words to "I'm in Love With a Wonderful Guy").

For the low, low price of $30 per person, comers will get a chance to watch the ladies of Lips perform hits from musicals like the aforementioned South Pacific, Dreamgirls, Man of La Mancha, and, of course, Hairspray. As if that wasn't reward enough, the punters will also get a three-course meal, complete with salad, entrée, dessert, and a complimentary Lips frozen Cosmo. A portion of the till will go towards ArtsUnited, an organization that strives to break down barriers and confront gay and lesbian issues through art. Their annual festival Arts Explosion — one of the largest GLBT art festivals in the country — takes place at various locations throughout South Florida from February 7 to the 22.

Lips is planted at 1421 E. Oakland Park Blvd. in Oakland Park. To make a reservation call 954-567-0987. For a complete list of Art Explosion events, visit artexplosiononline.org.
