Have a Paul
Award season is here. And by here we mean everywhere and totally annoying. But some awards are warranted and honor the great the way they deserve. For instance, in 2001, Paul Mecurio nabbed an Outstanding Individual Achievement in Writing Emmy for his work on The Daily Show. That might seem like a long time ago, but such an award lasts forever, because comedy gurus know real talent lies in the writers who grow into their own, like Conan O'Brien and Seth Meyers.
Mecurio started as a lawyer and investment banker who couldn't turn off his funny, so he sent a few jokes to Jay Leno and ended up writing for The Tonight Show. Now a reigning standup comedian and host of the popular podcast The Paul Mecurio Show, this guy knows he's made it big. But none of his accomplishments could compare to nabbing Paul McCartney as a guest on his podcast. Want to be in the same room as Mecurio's subtle greatness? It all goes down at the Improv.
See Paul Mecurio live this Friday through Sunday at the Fort Lauderdale Improv, located at 5700 Seminole Way in Hollywood. Tickets cost $17 plus fees, and there's a two-drink minimum. Visit ftl.improv.com, or call 954-981-5653.
