Hello, My Name Is Jane, and Im a Book-a-Holic
E-readers make you cringe. You wax rhapsodic about the way books smell. Borders declaring bankruptcy was the first sign of the coming apocalypse. If you nodded to yourself while reading any of these statements, you might have a condition called bibliophilia. Fortunately, theres no cure, but you can treat the symptoms with a liberal application of words. With bookstores closing everywhere and libraries packed with World of Warcraft players scamming free Wi-Fi, it can be hard for a true bibliophile to get ones fix in peace. Alan and Danielle Whatley are offering book addicts a second chance by reopening the Second Edition Bookstore (6812 Stirling Road, Davie) starting Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The childrens section has been expanded, and Dippy Debbie the clown will be painting faces from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. We know, its distracting, but its only to lure the children close to the books. Then, while theyre waiting to get their faces painted, the batteries die in Gameboys and iPods and theyll be forced to pick up a book! Of course, 20 years from now, theyll be waxing rhapsodic about the smell of e-readers and cringing at the idea of having books beamed telepathically into their brains, but at least theyll be reading. Regular store hours will be Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. And from June 10 to August 10, educators from Broward and Palm Beach counties can buy three books and get the fourth one free when they show their school ID. For more information or to just say hi to Alan and Danielle call 954-961-5063.
