In the Fiddle
Natalie MacMaster prefers her fiddle Celtic-style
or is it bluegrass? Its hard to tell, really. And besides, the way this clever Canadian makes music, trying to pigeonhole her sound becomes a moot point. With roots firmly planted in Celtic tradition, MacMasters love of bluegrass has resulted in collaborations with the some of the genres bigger names, such as Béla Fleck, Sam Bush, and John Cowan (all members of the New Grass Revival). But MacMasters talents dont end at her fingertips this gal can lay down some serious dance moves, from highland step numbers to modern tap styles. Its that mix of variety and sheer musical talent that enabled MacMaster to open for both Carlos Santana and Luciano Pavarotti. Damn, is there anything she cant do? MacMaster performs Saturday at Palm Beach Community Colleges Duncan Theatre (4200 Congress Ave., Lake Worth). The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $25. Call 561-868-3309.
