Is There Room in Your Heart for the Leprechaun?
The enlightened know just how meaningful it is to a certain minority group for us all to make time in our busy lives to show some support on March 17. The date has long been dedicated to St. Patrick, but in recent decades, there has been a growing movement to uplift the Leprechaun. For 364 days out of the year, the small people with red hair, green beer, and gold gold must jig and become drunk in hiding to avoid the jeers of drunks who fit the norm. For just one day, consider standing, leaning, or stumbling side-by-side with the magical little people with green beer in hand to show some solidarity. It may just be another day of debauchery for you, but to them, it means the world. If you have felt any movement in your heart reading this, head to downtown Hollywood (Hollywood Boulevard between Dixie Highway and U.S. 1) for a daylong Leprechaun-loving celebration. There will be a parade beginning at 1 p.m. emceed by Lep supporter John “Footy” Kross and featuring the music of the New York Police Department Emerald Society Pipe and Drum Corps. More entertainment will happen throughout the afternoon, including performances by Celtic Bridge and U2 tribute act UV. Also, there will be activities for kids, and local restaurants will serve up traditional Irish favorites. The festivities begin at noon, and it is free to attend. Please wear green out of love for the Leps. Call 954-921-3404, or visit stpatricksparade.com.
