Techie types, this is a race for you. While that hot-shot football captain was macking on all the cheerleaders in his letterman jersey, you were playing battleship, all that time you weren't stuffed in a locker. So if you're seeking high school revenge against any particular jock, this is the competitive outdoor event you can finally beat 'em at.
The Bang 2 GPS+Puzzle Race tests your ability to solve puzzles and not your ability to suavely intercept a touchdown. Hosted by the Broward Area Navigation Game, you are invited to form a team of two to six players and to bring your smartphone with a GPS app installed on it. There will be ten locations given in minutes and seconds that you input into your GPS device and check in at. The second element of the race are the five puzzles that race designers estimate to take as little as five minutes or as long as 30. They let you phone a friend or use the Wi-Fi internet on your phone, but they don't expect that will help you too much anyway. So brush up on anagramming, common encoding patterns, and Morse code and you'll be solving that Rubik's Cube any day now.
The race will be held Saturday at Holiday Park, located at 1150 G. Harold Martin Drive in Fort Lauderdale. It begins at 10 a.m. and will end by 1 p.m. The entry fee is $20 per team. Visit netiry.com/bang2, or call 954-228-4824.
