Do you know what you are eating? Seriously. Do you have any idea what is actually in your food? Neither do we, since our food is allegedly mislabeled. So put down your hamburger and greasy fries and find out this Saturday at World Food Day 2013. Fair warning: The truth might freak you out. This worldwide-recognized event occurring locally at Yellow Green Market in Hollywood serves to inform the public on sustainable food and offers lessons in GMOs, AKA genetically modified organisms. Y'know, stuff created in a science lab to alter our food source for whatever convenient reasons. Though this event is intended to be informative, it's also packaged up nicely to entertain attendees with live music, games, and raffle prizes. Guest speakers from the wellness profession will sound off talking about the benefits of a GMO-free diet. In fact, some wellness professionals claim that 80 percent of the food supply in the United States has been genetically engineered or contains some GMO ingredient. Now that's scary. Join the group of organic farmers, local restaurants, GMO Free Florida, and Food and Water Watch from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Yellow Green Market, 1940 N. 30th St., Hollywood. Call 954-674-8956, or email [email protected]. Free.
Sat., Oct. 12, 1-4 p.m., 2013
