Lend a Hand

The holidays should be nothing short of taking a moment to help others. In support of the staggering number of homeless youth in Florida, the Covenant House of Florida is inviting students, community supporters, faith groups, board members, friends, and family to join them in the evening for the Annual Candlelight Vigil for Homeless Youth along the New River. Bringing attention to this growing issue, especially during the holidays, participants will hear personal stories from homeless youth in order to build a sense of community through inspirational music and messages of hope. Students will also receive two hours of community service for their involvement. Participants are encouraged to bring a new white T-shirt to help the Covenant House reach its goal of collecting 1,000 shirts for homeless youth. Show your support Thursday at Esplanade Park, located at 400 SW Second St. in Fort Lauderdale. The observance begins at 5:30 p.m. in the park and includes registration, refreshments, and snacks. The procession will continue at 6:30 p.m. along the river and end in the park for testimonials, prayer, and music at 7 p.m. For more information about the event, donations, and other ways to get involved, visit, or call 954-568-7914.
