Lesbians on the Funny Juice
Poppy Champlin’s restless, roving comedic mind was forged in the pressure cooker of Second City (the famed improv troupe) and may gracefully alight on any subject on any night. But on the Queer Queens of Qomedy Tour, it probably sticks close to the night’s binding theme: lesbianism and the terrors and triumphs thereof. Codependency, bed death, a song about stalking set to the tune of “Fever” but titled “Beaver” — this is all very good, for lesbians seldom have entertainments made just for them that don’t involve a preponderance of ghastly acoustic guitars. Champlin is joined by Barb Neligan, who combines wide-eyedness and world-weariness to generally hilarious effect, and Vickie Nance, who’s funny and sings. The three take the stage at the Improv Fort Lauderdale (5700 Seminole Way, Fort Lauderdale) at 8 p.m., and tickets cost $20 -to$30. Admission’s 21 and over, and there’s a two-drink minimum.
