Youve always wondered what the inside of a drag queens makeup box would read like (maybe something to the effect of, glittery mascara, five colors of; industrial size bottle of Nair, for problem areas; and a length of heavy-duty masking tape, uses unknown). Lucky for you, inquisitive reader, theres Oakland Parks newest drag and dinner hotspot, Lips (1421 E. Oakland Park Blvd., Oakland Park). The restaurant is putting all questions to bed with a weekend-long grand opening soiree thats part dinner theater, part exotic drag revue, and all man.
Lips sassy sister locations in Greenwich Village and San Diego have been rocking an appealing mix of bawdy humor, fierce décor, and drag-themed eats since the ´90s, and the new digs will follow close to the mold. After all the rhinestones are affixed, guests will have a chance to get up close and personal with the gals during weekly events like Thursdays Dinner with the Divas, a collection of celeb look-alikes, such as Cher, Madonna, and Tina Turner. Theres also Glitz & Glamour, a Friday/Saturday party, where the girls dress to impress and guests dance to a live DJ, and Gospel Brunch, the Sunday holy-roller drag revue. Nightly seatings are at 6:30 or 9 p.m. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday; Sunday brunch kicks off at noon or 2 p.m. Theres no charge to sit at the bar, but tables come with a per person food minimum of $15, as well as a $5 entertainment fee.
