Thanks to J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek prequel that was a “force” to be reckoned with, no longer does the Trekkie nerd collective have to hide in its bedroom debating who was the better captain in the brains-versus-brawn debate. And it’s fitting that the Trekverse should help to herald nerdom’s emergence from the cultural closet. Aside from iconic captains James T. Kirk and Jean-Luc Picard, Star Trek was the first space series to welcome women and minorities to the party with Kathryn Janeway, Benjamin Sisko, and George Takei.
Celebrate all that is Trekdom — and the fact that you know the difference between Kardashian and Cardassian — from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. at Respectable Street. Art Nouveau is presenting a Star Trek-themed event thanks to its curator, the talented Teresa Korber. Expect more than 25 local artists of all media to be there with Star Trek-themed work, as well as a huge canvas that attendees will have the opportunity to paint. There will also be live entertainment, drink specials, no cover, and the PS561 Food Truck. Let your nerd flag fly.
Respectable Street is located at 518 Clematis St. in West Palm Beach. Visit artnouveauevents.com.
