It’s nice seeing a Florida boy achieve some success, so when Hi-Life Café’s own Carlos Fernandez made his way onto the second season of Bravo’s Top Chef, we were thrilled. Now that Fernandez’ star has risen, everyone back home is curious about the experience. Happy to oblige a little dish session, Fernandez is holding a Night with a Top Chef, an event to feed both the bellies and minds of his guests. Thursday at 7 p.m., Hi-Life (3000 N. Federal Hwy., Fort Lauderdale) will host a prix fixe, five-course meal during which the chef will mingle with the crowd to answer all their questions. What’s on the docket? Veal skirt steak with chimichurri, baby clams with chorizo, heirloom tomato and asparagus risotto, Carlos’ Tso’s chicken, kona crusted filet with sweet garlic crema, and pineapple bread pudding for dessert. The meal, put together in conjunction with the American Institute of Wine and Food, includes wine for each course, tax, and gratuity for just $80 per person. Call 954-962-6772.
