Mahers Got Mojo
After 9/11, comedian Bill Maher caused a brouhaha by pointing out on his TV show, Politically Incorrect, that the hijackers werent cowards, as it had become vogue to call them. Even Rush Limbaugh saw nothing wrong with the comment. But advertisers pulled sponsorships, pundits whined, and his talk show tanked and died proving that even on a late-night program called Politically Incorrect, political correctness is mandatory.
From there, Bill Maher couldve slinked off into obscurity on Hollywood Squares. Instead, he got a bigger and better show, Real Time, on the unregulated airwaves of HBO. Last year, he released Religulous, a blockbuster success and one of the planets first documentaries to truly stick it to all forms of religion simultaneously. Nowadays, Maher is kind of a big deal. Tonight at 8 p.m., hes bringing his stand-up act to Nova Southeastern University. Prepare to be both edified and offended.
Catch Maher, live, at the NSU Arena in the Don Taft University Center (3301 College Avenue, Fort Lauderdale). Tickets start at $43, and can be bought at ticketmaster.com. For more info, call 954-262-5553.
