South Florida's acclaimed community theater group the Play Group LLC is back for its fourth season with The Monster Project. Written by award-winning playwright and Miami Beach resident Brian Harris, it features a compilation of four original plays in which the plots tie in nicely with the themes of the season. Based on the descriptions alone, things seem to go awry for each protagonist. To wit, The Monster Project features the following scenarios: "The Pattern": Sunny brings her date to a psychiatrist to make sure she's not falling into old patterns. But maybe she's found a new one. "The Grandfather": Maury's gaming is taken to another level when his grandfather moves in. "The Wrong Stuff": Too much time on a space ship leads to strange pastimes. "The Binder": Things heat up when Roger gives Jennifer a present with a mysterious inscription. Although the show will go on for about a month, make sure to catch the special preview on Thursday at the Empire Stage, located at 1140 N. Flagler St. in Fort Lauderdale. Tickets cost $20 for the preview and $25 for all other performances. Tickets are available at smarttix.com or by calling Empire Stage's box office at 954-678-1496 or at the door. Complimentary beer and wine is included. Shows begin at 8 p.m.
