New Old School
You know how weird, old trends always creep their way back to the surface. Leg warmers? They will never stay away for long. High-waisted shorts are cringe-worthy, and no one seems to care because they are so old that they are automatically hip. Even multimedia is going vintage. Have you noticed the new trend of classic table reads? It's all the rage to throw a random group of '90s celebrities and comic up-and-comers around a table and laugh at their uproarious rendition of Space Jam. The local arts culture is no stranger to leading the pack of the latest trends. That's why Arts Garage has started its own Radio Theatre series. The throwback stage performance takes a classic script and turns it on its head by having each character read his part into a mic, radio style. Next up in the series is the classic Cecil B. DeMille flick Sunset Boulevard. The film noir classic hits on more dramatic high points than a season finale of Beverly Hills 90210. But at Arts Garage, the drama all goes down with a super-old-school, artsy way that will make all your friends think you are the cool one again. Sunset Boulevard Radio Theatre is Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Arts Garage, located at 180 NE First St. in Delray Beach. General-admission tickets cost $15; prices go up $5 at the door.
