New Place Like Home
Having moved to the U.S. this past May, Cuban-born artist Rafael Carrillo Alejandro Domenech is still in a transitional period of sorts. Though he has always used his paintings to interpret the world around him, right now that world is in a state of flux, and its this cultural no-mans land that is the focus of his current exhibit, Middle Ground. As an artist in Cuba, Domenech used his realists eye to capture the urban decay of his immediate surroundings. Despite having little money for art supplies using found objects and paint he bummed from workers on the street Domenech still made a name for himself. Now, with much of that success following him to the States, Domenech wont be stuck in that middle ground for long.
