Respectable Street is the oldest, friendliest, and probably best music club in SoFla, and on New Year’s Eve, it takes over the 500 block of Clematis. Traffic will shut down, and the street will fill with revelers — at least until 1 a.m., when those still reveling will have to head indoors. Starting at 8 p.m., nine bands will blast their was across the big club’s stage. These include Everymen (who play like gypsies and sing like Godzilla), Naked In 8 Days (who play and sing like angsty adolescents), Astari Nite (danceable new-wave pop with off-key vocals), Darling Sweets (dirt-floor Americana pop rock), the Mission Veo (adenoidal ass-kick ’80s art rock), Filthy Animals (white-guy, good-times hip-hop that oughta be way more famous than it is), Lavola (noisy plaintive proggers), and three more that haven’t been announced yet. Respectable Street will ring in the new year with a blast of marked Ping-Pong balls, redeemable for cash and prizes.
