No Comedian is an Island
So you can make your friends crack up with your impressions of Golda Meir and youre working on a gag that involves flatulation and the phrase Not on my watch! Obviously, thats comic genius but have you tested it live yet? Its one thing to be a funny guy in the company of your cohorts; its quite another to get on stage and work a room. What you need is practice in front of your contemporaries, and itd be a good thing if they were also drunk. We know just the place: The Thursday night Comedy Open Mic at Ye Olde Falcon Pub (2867 S. University Dr., Davie). Now in its fourth week, the upstart open mic is great because A) Its full of young, would-bes who are eager to bounce outrageous material off each other, and B) the Falcon is an excellent place to get lit. Theyve got a massive selection of beers and its also a great restaurant, so if you get too wasted, the friendly bartenders can lovingly nurse you back to sobriety with some of the best shepherds pie in South Florida. Lisa Corrao, the house comedian for the Improv Comedy Club as well as the gal behind the Revenge of the Nerd Comics nights, a series well known for both laughs and lightsabers, has taken to headlining the Falcons open mic. Every comedian needs an open mic to try out new material, and this is a great place to do that, says Corrao. Plus the audience is really cool. Great; now youve just got to sell them on your Meir bit. The mic hits the stand at 10 p.m., and theres no cover. Call 954-424-0300, or visit www.yeoldefalconpub.com.
