Nonfiction Gets Creative
Are you a writer with a passion for nonfiction, and would you like someone to break you into the industry?
If so, join well-renowned writer and writer in residence for the Girls' Club, Vanessa Garcia, for a two-day workshop being held this Friday and next Friday for a lesson that's worth your while. Garcia has written for the New York Times, LA Times, Miami Herald, Art Basel Magazine, and numerous other journals, magazines, newspapers, and online media.
Today, "creative nonfiction" is a term usually grouped with literary journalism and memoir. Express your inner muckraker or documentary writing by joining Garcia in a workshop called "Literary Truth/Creative Nonfiction" that addresses a form of writing that can be applied to various media.
In 2010, Garcia was named one of Miami's "20 Under 40" by Miami Herald, and that same year, she was named one of Miami's 100 Creatives by Miami New Times. She will educate you in a way that will help you reach your artistic goals. Writers will be able to write content based on artistic performance to painting, multidisciplinary work to storytelling, and personal narrative to poetry.
Combining discussion, lecture, and participatory exercises, the workshop is available to artists of all disciplines and career levels. It will be held both days from noon to 3 p.m. and will take place in Fort Lauderdale at the Girls' Club's space, located at 117 NE Second St.
The Girls' Club is a foundation that provides alternative space and a private collection for women exhibiting contemporary art. You can find cutting-edge works in painting, drawing, photography, and video inside the art space. Registration is $80, and there are discounts for students. Participants can register for the workshop online at girlsclubcollection.org/writing-workshop. Call 954-828-9151, or email email@example.com.
