Valentine’s Day is here again. The pink hearts, the chalky candy, the love stinking up the air — it’s enough to make you want to go on a rampage. J. Vinazza and Dawn Dubriel know the feeling. That’s why for this month’s installment of Auteur Explosion, the monthly gathering of South Florida’s avant-garde filmmakers, musicians, and artists, the pair is turning Cinema Paradiso into a house of horror. The Valentine’s Eve Massacre version of Auteur Explosion will feature a screening of blood-spattering short films by local film crews like Underlab Studios, Angry Pig Productions, and Chaos Films. The Massacre will also exhibit the dark creations of local artists Gus Cervantes, Rusty Ellison, and Joanne Schweitser, and set the stage for musical performances by Web Three, D-Greezy, Epitaph, Sewerside, J-Hexx Project and Mr. LOLO.

This celebration of the macabre begins at 9 p.m. at Cinema Paradiso, located at 503 SE 6 St. in Fort Lauderdale. Tickets cost $5. Click on the calendar section of underlabstudios.com, or call 954-525-3456 for more information.
Fri., Feb. 13, 9 p.m., 2009
