In debauched South Florida, you couldn't blame someone for jumping to kinky conclusions at the prospect of a weekly swing club. Yeah, there will likely be some partner-swapping at tonight's Swing Night at Pavilion Grille, but the weekly dance session is a mostly chaste affair.
Every Monday, Swing Out South Florida hosts a one-hour, drop-in dance lesson at the Boca Raton restaurant. Beginners to intermediates can go over steps like the Lindy Hop, Charleston, East Coast swing, blues, and balboa. The dance lessons -- which are highly recommended for newbies -- are followed by a social dance. Oh, and there's booze to help provide a little liquid courage for the wallflowers. You can show up with a pal or make the trek solo, and no experience is necessary.
The lesson is 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., and the social dance is 8:30 to 11 p.m. The cost is $15 for the lesson and social dance or $10 for the dance only. Students with a valid ID pay $10 and $5, respectively. Pavilion Grille is located at 301 Yamato Road in Boca Raton. Call 754-300-6367, or visit swingoutsouthflorida.com.
