Not that Rush

No relation to '70s prog-rock pioneers Rush, heralded singer/songwriter Tom Rush is an equally world-renowned musician in his own right. Rush is a living legend who is known as the founding father of the folk-rock genre; it wouldn't be a stretch saying that Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, and Jackson Browne all owe a piece of their fame and fortune to Tom Rush's mesmerizing baritone vocals and ace acoustic-guitar strums. In the '60s, Rush opened the door for the folk revival and he has been a pioneer for this earthy brand of music ever since. Now it's 50 years on, and Rush is still at the top of his game. He'll be bringing his influential songwriter skills to the Broward Center's intimate Amaturo Theatre -- the ideal venue for enjoying Rush's influential half-century's worth of work. Rush performs Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, located at 201 SW Fifth Ave. in Fort Lauderdale. Tickets cost $35. Visit or call 954- 522-5334.
