Nothin’ Says “I Love You”

Most years, holiday shopping entails running to Walgreens at the last second, scoring a bag of stale circus peanuts and a bottle of Designer Imposter’s Body Spray (I swear, it smells just like Tribe). But this year, you can use your creative charms to actually create gifts.

Stitch Bird workshops are a monthly celebration of all things homespun, from broaches to handbags, each installment offers a new way to make cool, fun stuff. Today’s lesson is all about socks — or moreover, how to make socks into more traditional sock monkeys and less traditional monster dolls. Whatever you choose to construct, Laura (Head Crafty Chick of the line StitchesAreForever) will be on site to lend guidance and emotional support. Just think how excited your friends will be this year when they unwrap something fun and cuddly, instead of your usual Clapper and bottle of SmartWater. Registration is $30 and includes supplies, instruction, a friendly atmosphere, and light refreshments. Classes are limited to 20 registrants, so sign up early at It all goes down in the Bear and Bird loft space inside of Tate’s Comics (4566 N. University Dr., Lauderhill).
