Off the Basel-Beaten Path

What happens when graffiti rats abandon the streets for a gallery show exploring the underground movement? Find out Friday at Art Center/South Florida (800 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach), which has linked up with Primary Flight to mainline some street cred into its white cube setting. “Blue Print for Space” features the work of Shepard Fairey, who raised the profile of street art with his wildly popular Obama campaign posters during last year’s elections. Beginning at 11:00 a.m., visitors can watch more than 25 other artists as they create murals in the gallery’s windows. The event is free to the public. Call 305-674-8278 or visit

On Saturday from 7 p.m. to midnight, DJ Ivan Diaz will be spinning his soulful sounds, with refreshments provided by Barefoot Wine. Tickets cost $10. Call 786-363-8040 or visit
