Parents Are a Drag
Like many a love story before and after it, the French play La Cage Aux Folles derives its plot from a meet the (conservative) parents scenario only this time, its not the suitor whose lifestyle is a problem; its the suitors father. The father, Renato, manages a drag club and is dating one of the male performers to boot. So, when the two families get together for dinner, truth isnt exactly the main course. If youre suddenly reminded of Robin Williams, its because his 1996 movie Birdcage is a remake of the story. Or you just like hairy arms.
La Cage Aux Folles is onstage at the Maltz Jupiter Theatre (1001 E. Indiantown Road, Jupiter), where this Fridays performance is preceded by a pride soirée from 6 to 7 p.m. in the lobby. The 7:30 p.m. performance is followed by a reception featuring cast members and KOOL 105.5 FMs Tim Allan Walker. Tickets cost $48. Call 561-575-2223, or visit jupitertheatre.com.
