If the idea of paying big bucks for the opportunity to date someone brings to mind the world's oldest profession, better think again. bub. While the Venus and Mars Bachelor/Bachelorette Auction, being held by the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation, will give you a chance to entice some lucky lady or lad to join you for an evening by offering cold hard cash, you're not actually buying the date. "What people really are buying is the date package," says Tony Beall, National Director of Fund Development for the MS Foundation. "We try to create some pretty exciting packages, like a day of snorkeling, a full spa treatment, or even a fishing charter followed by a nice dinner." The charity auction will pair those fine packages with 10 men and 10 women, each who are 21 to 50-years-old, completely available, and literally willing to place themselves on the auction block like so many pieces of beef tenderloin. If it still sounds filthy, the goal, at least, is a completely noble one: 100% of the net proceeds from the event will go directly to caring for and improving the quality of life of people around the country afflicted by Multiple Sclerosis. Last year, the charity event drew over 350 prospective daters and raised $25,000, and the Foundation hopes to improve on that this time around. To ensure that, your $50 entry ($40 paid in advance) will not only get you a chance to land the best date money can buy, but also great tunes, plenty of dancing, and an open bar courtesy of Pinnacle Flavored Vodka.
The human trafficking begins at 7 p.m. at Revolution, found at 200 W. Broward Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale. For tickets and more information, call 954-776-6805, ext. 169, or visit msfacts.org.
