Pianos Hit the Streets
An old piano might seem like junk to some people, but give it to a talented artist to paint and it could become another man’s treasure. See how artists repurposed pianos for public play in Fort Lauderdale at the Play Your City: Painted Piano Launch.
In an effort to bring attention and more traffic to art galleries in downtown Fort Lauderdale, the city has collaborated with Cadence — a downtown-based landscape architecture and urban design firm — and Riverwalk to create a three-month brigade of traveling pianos throughout the downtown area.
The launch of the event will take place during FAT Village’s monthly art walk on Saturday and Riverwalk’s Sunday Arts shindig. It’ll feature several pianos newly painted by artists Brian Buzzella, Luzalma Gonzalez, and Richard Vergez, as well as two MoAFL Art Academy students. Meet the artists and view the pianos before they are dispersed to various locations throughout downtown Fort Lauderdale. See the pianos’ traveling schedule and vote on their top final downtown destinations. Don’t miss this free happening in downtown Fort Lauderdale this Saturday from 7 to 11 p.m. on the sidewalk of 435 N. Andrews Ave. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Riverwalk Esplanade.
