Play It Loud
Nowadays, strumming a six-string is frequently substituted with rapid button pressing, chords are a combination of colored shapes, and rock stars are digitally animated characters in your latest birthday present. Even on Guitar Heros expert level, its hard to comprehend the level of passion that would cause Jack Whites fingertips to bleed from plucking too intensely.
However, Davis Guggenheims music documentary It Might Get Loud may offer a glimpse. Highlighting what separates professional players from the ones who transport you, the documentary chronicles the history of the electric guitar, told through some of rocks most creative ax men, Jack White (The White Stripes), The Edge (U2), and Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin). Through intimate personal interviews, these legends reveal the personal philosophies and motives that drive their creativity and music. So if nothing else, this film will hopefully compel people to drop their plastic guitars. And instead of listening to a rotation of mainstream hits as they synchronize colors and buttons, maybe theyll dust off some records and rediscover the albums that influenced generations of musicians. Catch the flick Wednesday at Lake Worth Playhouse (713 Lake Ave., Lake Worth) at 2 and 6 p.m. Tickets are $6 for the early show, and $8 for the later.
