Its easy to hate on American Idol. The best person doesnt always win. It makes people like Sanjaya famous. And its the only reason Paula Abdul has emerged from under the prom-dress ashes of 1987. But just like people who dismiss NSync and the Jonas Brothers when, if given the opportunity, theyd join a manufactured boy band in two pelvic thrusts of Justin Timberlakes Dick in a Box, the people who diss American Idol would probably wait in line for hours and hours if they had the chance or the talent.
However that doesnt mean its good TV or good music. But good music be damned Wednesday, when hoards of tweens and their parents will surely pack the BankAtlantic Center for American Idols Live. The winner and nine Idol rejects from the last season will perform, though youve probably only heard about one: reject Adam Lambert, the talented stage actor/goth rocker who recently quenched rumors about his sexual orientation by publicly coming out in an interview with Rolling Stone. The rest of the performers include Allison Iraheta, Anoop Desai, Danny Gokey, Kris Allen (the winner), Lil Rounds, Matt Giraud, Megan Joy, Michael Sarver, and Scott MacIntyre.
American Idols Live will begin at 7 p.m. at BankAtlantic Center, located at 1 Panther Pkwy. in Sunrise. Tickets start at $40.50. Call 954-835-7000, or visit bankatlanticcenter.com.
